Here are some suggestions to limit the risk of falling on the curling ice:
- Warm up and stretch prior to going on the ice.
- Inspect your equipment before use.
- Be aware of the conditions of the ice. New ice (known as green ice) can feel greasy and have less traction. This is caused by impurities in the water working their way to the surface.
- Always wear a pull-on gripper (Anti-Slider) over your slider when not delivering the rock.
- Use a helmet for head protection and any additional protective equipment required for your needs.
- Step on to the ice with your gripper foot first.
- Step off the ice with your slider foot first.
- Put your weight on your gripper foot when standing up after delivering the stone.
- Consider not sweeping and standing aside when too many obstacles (rocks or people) are within the sweeping path.
Be safe and good curling!
